I'm not a volcanologist, but I am a species of geologist… and Pomplemousse is correct so I'm really just posting to mention Santorini/Thera, which is a way more awesome volcano than Krakatoa and probably contributed to the downfall of the Minoan Civilization and inspired the myth of Atlantis.

Clive Merrison does a stellar Sherlock Holmes for the BBC radio adaptations.

There was a list floating around of other actors considered for the main TNG cast. I wonder if there's an equivalent for DS9; it would be interesting to see who else was considered for Dax.

That's a good point - right now she's the well-trained Starfleet officer surrounded by folks with issues.

Oh god don't remind me of Meridian!  Although, isn't that Jeffrey Comb's first Trek appearance?  He rises to such great heights from such a terribly low beginning.

I recognize that Terry Farrell is one of the weaker actors in the ensemble.  However, Jadzia Dax is a confident, competent, professionally dressed, attractive lady scientist and that is really all that is required for me to adore her forever.  It is imprinted somewhere deep in my brain: Jadzia = awesome!

I read somewhere that Bujold was actually inspired by Illya Kuryakin when she invented Illyan (hence the name) - but I discovered her books around the same time as I discovered Man From U.N.C.L.E., so  the combo just seemed to work to me.

@avclub-53e4db6f596904f154b5efa09193e3ab:disqus  I'm a woman, I have a baby and a full-time job. It is hard to juggle everything, yes.  But for part of the interview (and maybe Shatner was trying to lead her in this direction too much), she seemed to be saying that ANY woman with an important job can't do it well if

Hee, tell her thanks!  Illya got a little wonky in the disqus transition, unfortunately.

@avclub-a9dbf6c70f867fb5d09900f7bab79c25:disqus I can't speak to Mulgrew as an actress, as I didn't watch much of Voyager, but Mulgrew came across as very self-pitying. She and Shatner also had this whole long bit about how women can't truly focus on their work because of their kids, which greatly annoyed me.

Yeah, Shatner was at his utmost Shatnerishness and Mulgrew was too much (and I fast-forwarded through Bakula), but I could listen to Patrick Stewart and Avery Brooks talk about whatever they wanted for hours.  Also I enjoyed Shatner photobombing fan's pictures.

Was the sabotaged replicator in unused crew quarters?  I'm confused why either a) O'Brien was fixing replicators in unused rooms given his long to-do list or b) Odo didn't arrest Quark for breaking into someone's rooms.

I'm very disappointed in your date - that would have been awesome!

I hope he can bring his piano into the courtroom.

Avery Brooks attempting to communicate with the outside world is one of the most adorable things I've ever seen.  (I just watched "Captains" last night.)

Something something Adrienne Barbeaubot

As someone who works for NASA, I wish I could like this comment multiple times.

You know, I think the whole "just WAIT this little thing is SO AWESOME later!" thing is the new "Sorry TNG, DS9 did this so much better!" for the comment boards.

Maybe I'm so used to hearing Keiko get bad-mouthed that I remembered her being worse than she really is. Will be interesting to see on this re-watch.
