That would work great, except in areas where lots of folks are uninsured and like to hit & run (Los Angeles area).

This. Here in suburban SoCal I try to stay off the roads period, even if there is a marked bike trail on them. I ride on riverbed trails when I can, sidewalks at other times (yes, illegal in most areas, but rather that than getting smashed into a dead pulp by clueless cagers).

I’d rather loose lose my license so that now I don’t drive.
