I think the Robert California episodes will end up being like the "Tony's Dream" episodes of The Sopranos. Possibly not the most cohesive in terms of the series' arc but definitely a lot to enjoy there on their own.

Yes, this. I like that he didn't go back to the office because he finally has things that mean more to him. It was important to him to come back for Dwight and Angela's wedding, but it wasn't important to him to be in on everything that was going on after.
