My father got hit with cryptolocker on his work email after I repeatedly warned him not to open emails that he doesn’t know. The weird bit about it all was the email came looking like an internal email from his job. So it may not be poor user choices but just bad luck.

Yes it does send info back to the cable companies. If you don’t use Voice or Internet you can actually scramble the info going back to cable companies by adding some sort of resister(or a ton of splitters)
