Many years ago I did a ride-along on the 11pm-7am tour with a sunni muslim cop in Newark, NJ, for a magazine story. He was “newsworthy” because he’d fought the department for the right to wear a beard as a religious obligation and won. He was an African-American convert. He was also from the community he patrolled,

for fifteen years I was a cop in both military and civil agencies. I was young, idealistic and so in love with the idea of being a fucking hero. I had a few good supervisors who really tried to make me a good cop, but they were up against a culture that said cops were the good guys and everyone who wasn’t a cop was

Gracias, Papi. I appreciate you trying to answer and pretty much agree with you. I was a 911 Dispatcher in a super racist suburb but most of the cops were just schmoes working a job, ya know?! Still, others were nice to my face cuz I was young, naive and cute then nicknamed me ‘Coon Cunt’, I found out later.

Where are the good cops? We leave. Some like myself remain in the criminal justice field to make changes politically or academically. But in the end, we leave.

A more cogent argument I have never read. But I would love to read a counter argument from a police officer that FIRST does not reference lofty ideals about bravery, heroics, brotherhood, etc. but really tries to explain why mere coworkers, some even Black, 1) feel so free to take a life and 2) why others reflexively

I am the wokest one there is! GIMME MY FUCKING PRIZE! MASH THAT FUCKING LIKE BUTTON OR THE BAD GUYS WIN!

I know of a easier way, the majority of Root message board members aren’t on any of the other Kinja sites (funny how that works) and most of us are black, that’s a start.

You could show me a slideshow of photos of Trump doing Trump-ass shit — pictures of him with that trademark shit-eating grin, the thing he does with his mouth where it looks like a prolapsed asshole, him playing grab-ass with ICE agents, so on and so forth — but it’s this goddamn photo at the header of this post that

Latinidad is a concept created in USA, how can you cancel a concept in Latin America that doesn't actually exist there.

I’m glad that we’re finally having the discussion of refining (if not actually canceling) the concept of latinidad. As a latino with browner skin and more indigenous features, and I was always frustrated by how overbroad the category of “latino” was when discussing politics, power, social life, etc.

It will never cease to astound me the tactics the Democratic Party are taking in thinking they will win

Oldy, behold:

Castro fucked up by being a brown person who dared to question a white man, forcefully and with his whole chest.

But Phillips isn’t the only person writing articles glossing over the fact that Biden is only on stage because a black man picked him to join his crew.

Damn it. Thank you. Castro seemed a little pissed. And he probably IS pissed that he continues to be expected to treat another white guy talking out of his ass with reverence. And if Biden can’t formulate a response to some legitimate criticism, clarify his policy, and stop interrupting everyone, thats on him.

Worldwide!

Step One was to try to get rid of the Congressional Ethics committees.

I see some people who don’t seem to get the seriousness of this. But when you’re lying about the weather you’re already a few clicks into Nineteen Eighty-Four and you should be super worried.

“I think it’s important to stay focused on the money and not on the message,” Austin Lane, president of Texas Southern University, told Politico. “We’re here to find out, most importantly, if there’s money to access, where is it and how do we get it.”
