Generally, I think folk are trying too hard to not like the movie
I don’t wish to negate your enjoyment of the film. I’m happy that you found so much to love in it. But to your specific point of “I think folk are trying too hard to not like the movie”; I really enjoyed WW1 and was dying to see the sequel. We had Xmas dinner and I made it clear to my wife and our 2 friends that at…
They did. Its why they only sent screeners before release to friendly outlets to boost its RT score. That was cheaper than fixing a film that’s biggest issue was its fundamental structure. Sure they could have improved the CG but that would make the bad writing and inane plot elements more obvious.
Which part did people find confusing about this thing? The Monkey’s Paw wishes were silly and nonsensical but I didn’t get the impression they were meant to stand under scrutiny.
With respect to my fellow respondents here and elsewhere, I loved the film from start to finish.
“Complex romance” might be a bit of an over-sell, but sure. For me, the best thing about it is Gal Gadot. She easily handles the physicality of the role, while giving Diana warmth, kindness and humor. A large part of it is the script, which is a bit of a mess taken in whole, but at least lets the character shine. Sort…
That part!
Wonder Woman 1984 is unique in that it’s a standalone film without the burden of all the other DCEU films weighing it down, and yet it still manages to be a muddied, difficult to understand mess.
Whatever enthusiasm I had for the franchise withered away as the closing credits rolled. I was fantastically disappointed in this movie. And I am someone who gets all googlie eyed at the sight of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. But the shoddy craftsmanship of this movie was rather shocking in places. It felt lazy in…
That sounds bad. Cherry is one of the things in the trailer I didn’t have a problem with. She doesn’t confirm to standard dwarven gender roles so protraying her like this in the show makes sense.
What’s infuriating about the show is that it started when Terry Pratchett was still alive and he was closely involved (there’s even a YouTube video of the very first tone meeting back in 2011) and it was going to be effectively a sequel to the books. Pratchett decided that none of the TV shows had quite captured the…
Sounds like you’re better off without those groups in either case.
I started with so much hope for this, I even walked away from some Discworld groups because of the toxicity the reactions to the show generated. It’s not that they were critical but HOW they were critical (some racist and transphobic elements floated to the top which was shocking due to the nature of Terry’s books).
Agreed. The Sybill casting just feels so cynical. “Oi, we need a younger more conventionally attractive person to play Sybil or else no one will watch the show.”
I’ve been a hardcore Discworld fan since I was 13 (I’m 40 now) and literally nothing about this interests me at all. Notwithstanding Rhianna’s scorn on it, either.
The line between cripplingly stupid and criminally stupid gets thinner every day. Dear lord, this is some deeply dumb shit.
Last week my wife and I rewatched the other two Bill & Ted movies and came to the realization that somehow neither of us ever watched Bogus Journey, even though we thought we did. Hot take - that movie is not good. It’s not. Death is great, but the rest isn’t that good.
Can you imagine being a scriptwriter egotistical enough to have a copy of Terry Pratchett’s Guards! Guards! and Night Watch to hand and thinking, “No, I’m a much, much better writer than Pratchett. I’ll just use the names and make up my own stuff.” The arrogance of it is absolutely breathtaking.
But, does she have a Talking ViewMaster? This was one of the coolest toys I had in the 70s. The reels had an extra plastic disc on them. You put the disc in like normal and used the lever to advance the image. If you pushed the soundbar, it would spin the plastic disc and play the story/music of the reel. Mine is…
I think I have one that she doesn’t have :)
