Raise your hand if you thought Les would somehow argue Jian-Yiang's yellow Corvette was somehow racist.

I mean, I'll forgive you for thinking that was the joke. As literally everyone in this comment section has pointed out, you've decided that when Erlich used Chinese culture to fuel his BS, that was a step too far. To quote: Jian-Yang-related humor always has a casually racist quality about it; this takes the action to…
Sounds more like Drippin' Milk.
No, I'm with you. Erlich was using race in an inappropriate way to continue his bullshitting, but it's really not more or less reprehensible than the other shit he's done (like smack a child) that didn't get harped on by reviewers as "problematic." I think we're on the same page.
Exactly. It's the death of comedy (or art itself) if we have to censor it so as not to accurately represent reality for fear of triggering those offended at the slightest reference to culture/gender by a white or male character.
Yeah, I don't understand why reviewers fall over themselves to make everything they can about racism or sexism, except as a defense to being called out for not mentioning it, I guess?
I am convinced the AV Club encourages writers to reach for racist or sexist critiques in shows to drum up more comments/activity on the site and distract from the dwindling volume and quality of content.
Absolutely. Like the reason Chappelle quit his show, as he realized the people were laughing at his show for the wrong reason. But this wasn't an attempt at making nonsense sounds to mock the foreign sounding words of Chinese, as the reviewer apparently sees it. It's the very definition of PC culture run amok. And it…
I am the furthest from an alt-right nut, but the reviewer's comment is exactly why they can seize on the stupidity of PC culture to rouse their side.
How dare you say such an imprecation! (Don't think I'm using that right, but neither did the reviewer, so here we are.)
I waited years to use my Audible trial and his book is what did it for me. It was excellent!
Glad someone said it. The only racist is the reviewer who apparently reduced all of Jian-Yiang's lines in his memory to racist jokes. He's been one of the secret weapons of the show since the start.
I mostly agree with you! But it's not impossible they get back together later.
The creators have repeatedly said we never see Saul's home life in BB. Granted, Walt or His would have likely used Kim as leverage at points, but I'd bet we could see an entire season post-BB as Gene's circumstances are explored. The creators seem sympathetic to Jimmy (if not Saul). I don't expect he ends up wasting…
Hey, the woman who drowns Kevin is named Grace, like the name of the character Brett Butler played on another ABC sitcom!
It's definitely not perfect (a lot of that due to actors not being available or wanting to come back…I mean, Shannon??) and much of the final season was wasted on keeping the twist a secret, but I agree that it gets way too much hate. I think future generations divorced from the weekly viewing model will enjoy it more.
This was certainly not scripted. There's no pile of money the producers could have offered to make Varner say what he did, knowing it would follow him personally and professionally so long as Google exists.
Right…So the only person who names him is Roseanne, who then says a bunch of other people do it too (making it impossible to link him to the earlier blind items, if you're trusting her). And I don't trust her to be saying stuff for any reason other than attention. http://www.salon.com/2016/0…
Why do you say that? I'm unaware he's ever been specifically tied to any or settled cases with women.
Yeah, I was going to note that. If it were at a Jewish center and he just wrote it was in New York instead of, say, Delaware, there'd be blowback. And rightly so. But he just assumes all middle class conservatives are in West Virginia I guess.
