I mean, they could have easily paid a human being for that same help. Having to deal in English is far from a new or unsolved problem for overseas corporate executives. AI can be extremely useful as a sounding board to help with writing, but deferring to it to write your public apology statement for you is rather tone-

I know AI is “the devil” around here but company using software like it to help them craft a letter in a language that is not their native tongue is kinda whats its meant to do and its not a terrible thing

What fun to watch all these companies make a race for the bottom...

Fucking disrespectful, but this is why more game studios and QA testers need unionization.

Nobody hit anyone with layoffs. These highly profitable companies who post record profits year after year actively chose to lay people off to help make their earnings look better for shareholders

As somebody who was laid off in August and is still having trouble finding another job in the gaming or tech sectors, things suck quite a bit right now!

Their contracts won’t be officially terminated until the end of October and they’ll be expected to work through the rest of the month.

I got laid off from Amazon in November. They paid me through mid January, and then I got 13 weeks of severance pay and cashed out my vacation days. Sounds sick, right? Good on them. Know what I’d rather have had? My job. How’s Amazon doing these days, by the way?

I think the more noteworthy information is that Epic laid off 900 people despite making billions in revenue each year. The nice severance package doesn’t really make up for that. If you’re bringing in billions of dollars each year and still somehow losing enough money that you need to fire 900 people, that reeks of

Oh the same Epic that is paying boat loads of money to game devs to keep their games EGS exclusive? That took their games off mobiles because they didn’t want to pay the App Store cuts?

That completely reasonable Epic games that has a game store that bleeds money but keeps insisting on throwing more and more cash

So, they’re blaming gamers in the UK because people are no longer stuck at home because of Covid? And yet those companies making good games seem to be doing extremely well

Funny you should say that with the massive layoffs at Epic happening nearly simultaneously. Nobody is safe.

That’s basically what they’re doing, just a difference of degrees. That’s what they mean when they say that they will “implement a write-down of work-in-progress for titles under development.”

Company takes a talented studio that makes popular games and says “make us a Games-as-a-Service” cash cow revenue generator.”

I believe that companies should be penalized, rather than rewarded, for canceling creative work at the last second. This stinks of a tax-write-off to me.

Yeh non of these companies are struggling.

Go ahead and keep claiming that amidst reports of record-high profits for last fiscal year at Capcom and other AAA publishers.

I’ve got no problem paying more for games if the publishers would commit to that money going directly to higher wages for the developers.

The problem is that she’s just reading the lines and I wonder what the voice director was doing. Then again, maybe the director told her to sound more exaggerated and add some grate to the voice but Megan still sucked at that.
