Nobody hit anyone with layoffs. These highly profitable companies who post record profits year after year actively chose to lay people off to help make their earnings look better for shareholders

As somebody who was laid off in August and is still having trouble finding another job in the gaming or tech sectors, things suck quite a bit right now!

Their contracts won’t be officially terminated until the end of October and they’ll be expected to work through the rest of the month.

I got laid off from Amazon in November. They paid me through mid January, and then I got 13 weeks of severance pay and cashed out my vacation days. Sounds sick, right? Good on them. Know what I’d rather have had? My job. How’s Amazon doing these days, by the way?

I think the more noteworthy information is that Epic laid off 900 people despite making billions in revenue each year. The nice severance package doesn’t really make up for that. That’s basically what they’re doing, just a difference of degrees. That’s what they mean when they say that they will “implement a write-down of work-in-progress for titles under development.”

Company takes a talented studio that makes popular games and says “make us a Games-as-a-Service” cash cow revenue generator.”

I believe that companies should be penalized, rather than rewarded, for canceling creative work at the last second. This stinks of a tax-write-off to me.

I’ve got no problem paying more for games if the publishers would commit to that money going directly to higher wages for the developers.
