I think you have a misconception on why the Ice Climbers are not in there.

If your definition of interesting is based solely around Bleach and Naruto then you have been missing A LOT of good stuff

I thought he did it for balance purposes because having a 2 in 1 character can give you a huge advantage in strategy

Nintendo has always sold their products in China through a third party with a different brand but they stopped on the DS era I think. They are looking for a way to sell over there now that China has legalized video games over there.

There is a few reasons why they are interested in China:

people who brake their systems have no control, i have played my Smash for over 40 hours now and no damage whatsoever, i do sometimes "smash" when dodging the C.Pad but that's rare

and the price is about right. Nintendo is the only company so far that I truly get exited for DLC

I'll personally get one for Xenoblade and Smash (which I heard it has more features when it runs on a N3DS)

I don't think they are scared of Smash, Sonic is in the game after all so that's a big promotion for Sonic Boom in general.
