I’ve been perusing the forums for months and it seems last year-ish the FZs got bumped up to the same category as supersport bikes due to a high number of write-offs... my quotes were between $1700 and $3500 for full coverage. Absolutely bonkers.

Oddly enough I was cross-shopping the CB500F/X due to Wes’s praises and the fact that they are cheaper and insurance is about 1/5th of the Yamahas. Then I look at the Yamahas... I mean just look at ‘em!

No off-road review is complete without the sand/dirt/mud/snow wave shot. Nice.

Just quoted two totally different bikes I have my eye on... CCs make a massive difference. One super-fun-super-naked and the other mild-mannered-super-eco commuter. I think that made my decision a little easier (until I want more bike).

I agree- I love naked bikes. Most of my time was spent on the highway, and a simple windscreen would have done wonders for comfort.

Going along with the “something cheap” theme here... My first bike was a 1991 Suzuki GS500E in 2008 for $900. It was my primary transportation in college. I put a couple hundred bucks into maintaining it over 2 years and sold it for... $900. Make sure you get a relatively embarrassing color scheme like teal with
