Hey, at least the Grimes episode has killer jokes.

I’ve always hated “The Springfield Files”. Nary a joke lands with me, save for a few (the lie detector and the Urkel line come to mind).
I’ll once again refer you to any Target home decor aisle. Hard to feel intellectually superior or not common when you’re standing in one of those.
No, because “midcentury modern” is an exceptionally common term that you’ll find mentioned in any Target home decor aisle. This isn’t some esoteric concept.
Wait, what do you have against “postmodern”??
Well this’ll be a fun comments section. Can’t wait to read everyone’s very valid opinions!
Yeah, I’d say this special is pure-heroin Mulaney. At this point, he’s really leaning into the Mulaney thing, and if that’s a bit too much for you, his first two specials would be better entry points. I’d especially recommend New in Town.
not sure where the downsides are to this description.
The Return absolutely told a story, with a beginning, middle, and (a pretty bleak, terrifying) end. Just because Lynch occupies himself with exploring dreams, nightmares, and time doesn’t mean Frost isn’t in the corner drawing connections with red yarn between native mythology and the goings-on of a small-town…
But that “fluff” is Twin Peaks. It’s always been Twin peaks.
How dare you.
With each passing day, I mourn The Return. I miss it so much. It’s a gift, and may go down as one of — if not singularly — my favorite piece of tv/cinema/visual art.
This is fucking bullshit. If she wants privacy, she wants privacy. Your assumption that this is all based on what Glover wants — that he “keep his woman” in hiding — is beyond misogynistic.
21st century social template? What the fuck? Diversity and representation in rock (and our subsequent rock-star deification) has been a conversation for, like, 70 years now.
Goddamn, “Americans” out-Princes Prince. What a wicked album.
Great, if you want a review graded on a curve, go somewhere in the business of reviewing with those kinds of kids gloves. Just because a movie works as a fan experience doesn’t mean it works on a fundamental filmmaking experience.
But that’s not the main complaint.
That’s... not how movie reviewing works. Dowd isn’t saying, “There are a lot of characters — C+.” He’s saying, “There are a lot of characters and the movie handles it poorly — C+.”
Great! That doesn’t mean it works to the film’s benefit.
