I got this momentary image of Paige staying in that safe house apartment forever, her life frozen, and decades from now, still drinking her vodka from the freezer, ending up looking for all the world like...Beloved Character Actress Margo Martindale.
That didn’t go at all how I thought it would, and I loved it. That was so quietly devastating.
And for the final time.
Yes. There have been many high-profile cases of them being caught over the years, not just the 2010 one. Probably the most famous was Rudolph Abel, arrested in 1957:
“he could look for things that up til now would be invisible to him, like placing a piece of paper in a fence or marking a mailbox, the use of wigs, or whatever.”
Well sure but at this stage, Elizabeth is a much stronger asset to the Centre than Paige would be as an intern so why retire one of if not their strongest agent for the chance that Paige will eventually be in a position to get high security clearance? If Paige gets to that level where there is more scrutiny, it will…
Not just that, he probably felt guilty for being that paranoid. He didn’t want to think about Philip and Elizabeth, or anyone else, that way anymore. That level of suspicion of everybody was killing his marriage. So without anything to go on, he probably tried to suppress his instincts, in order to be a more ‘healthy’…
It’s not that strange when you consider that after that first attempt to sniff them out in the pilot, he probably actively suppressed that instinct. Not being able to let go of his work was what was ruining his relationships, so he tried not to think of the Jenningses in that way anymore. And being so absorbed in his…
Whatever happens in these final episodes, the one thing I’m really hoping for is that we’ll finally get Erik to pluralize “Jenningses” correctly.
She’ll always be Marita Covarrubas to me - so I’m always suspicious.
“I also think that once Philip is off is game”
Exactly. She is choosing idealogy (which will go tits up in less than two years) over family. The coming collapse of the USSR has always been a tragic backdrop to her faith in the Motherland.
I prefer The Americans to Breaking Bad, honestly. But both are fantastic, obviously.
One thing I’ve always loved about this show is that it always wraps up all the dangling plot points, even if they’ve been left dangling for years. Stan looking at the picture of the Jennings and remembering William’s dying words is a good example.
This show is great. Really gotta give them a hand for this one. So tense. I nearly lost my head. What a great episode.
I’ve long had the theory that this will all end with nothing really happening—no big Stan reveal, no “series regular” death.
But as I thought more about them, I warmed to those clips. They’re not hand-holding; they’re a gentle reminder.
