It’s not possible to avoid giving business to the same contractors. Even if you change the prime contractor, most of the subcontractors will be the same.

What the hell is even up with that? I mean, shoulders plus arms are wider than hips - particularly once my fat ass is wedged in between the arm rests. OSHA wouldn’t allow it for workers, but there’s no such protection for consumers I guess. It seems like the FAA could set more reasonable space requirements but as a…
My kids are both in happy marriages, both relationships of 10 years plus. I’ve asked them how on earth they learned to have such successful romantic relationships, because that is a thing I suck at and wasn’t able to teach them. Both of them said I taught them to respect and love others and to expect to be treated…
I routinely choose a 12 hour drive, even though I often have to stop for a hotel. That’s how much I hate dealing with airports. Oh, and having to curl in my arms and shoulders to wedge into a seat for the the duration of the flight.
Watch The Night Manager. He’s all darkness, even as the protagonist, his sophistication cynical, nothing jokey about him. It's an amazing, dark performance.
I’m happy for you and everyone who has close, warm relationships with their families. I didn’t with my own parents but am very close with my own kids, so I’ve seen both sides. Happy, mutually respectful and loving is by far the way to go! :)
I love the guy liner but he looks smelly.
Ok final point (maybe) and I’ll shut up (possibly). I know a shocking number of very smart medical and neuroscience researchers who left academia because of the research funding cuts of the Bush era. The situation in academia changed so that instead of being paid salaries, they had to cover their own salaries with…
Not to mention plumbers, welders and carpenters who start their own businesses. Yes they have to be intelligent and good managers, but that’s true for anyone, in any career. My carpenter *also* makes more than most professional (BA or BS) employees around here. He’s good and like most skilled tradesmen around here who…
I have a degree in physics so I’m very well aware of the advantages it’s given me. And I went on and got a masters and PhD too. But I’ve got $200k in student debt (thanks to compounded 7.5% interest on balances that therefore increase every year) that I will never pay off. AND at the latter part of my career, as a…
You’re a breath of fresh air in this discussion and you sound like a wonderful person. Speaking as a mother of wonderful people, I’m quite sure your parents love having you home.
But not all degrees return the same outcomes. The best financial returns come from applied degrees like engineering and computer science. Graphic design returns better than fine art. Meanwhile new welders from a strong program make more than I did with a BS in physics.
It would be nice to acknowledge the expense and sacrifice parents are sometimes making to continue to house their kids. You're not necessarily doing them a favor.
There’s a vocal and not insignificant cohort that will vote for Bernie Sanders, or for Donald Trump who represent the cartoonish antithesis of Bernie Sanders, but never for Hilary Clinton. It’s really difficult to interpret that without factoring in sexism.
FGOTUS. Can't pronounce it.
The underage girl gave a clear statement that indicates he was pimping her. What’s your grounds for dismissing her statement? I already get that you defend pimping underage women as a useful and helpful - Samaritan, even - service, but you get that it’s against the law, right?
Interesting. You’re not saying innocent until proven guilty, you’re saying pimps provide a valuable service to underage women. Ten years ago my niece narrowly escaped a pimp trying to provide her this valuable service by holding her against her will in a hotel room and trying to get her to shoot heroin. She took his…
I think for people like me who have been online from the time that “online” was being invented remember the pre-monetized web. We certainly hoped for more from the internet than “40 minutes of programming and 20 minutes of commercials.”
Yep. Classy.
