My wife uses the Otterbox Defender and loves it. I have a UAG case for my Android phone (Galaxy S3) and love it. Not as much protection for the screen as the Otterbox but much thinner. I'll probably get a Defender next.

I don't see why not. It is worth a shot. The table might just need a good scrubbing and cleaning with some Murphy's Oil soap. That will clean and condition the wood at the same time. Try that and if that doesn't work use the hair dryer method.
