If the ratings aren’t great and they cancel at that point, well then they’ve told a whole story. If ratings are good and they decide to continue, they have 11 more books worth of ideas…

They only adapted half the novel in the first season. There’s fully enough story left in the first book for a season paced similarly to the first one.
