Yes, but the tires that were OEM on a car in 2001 might not still the best in 2012. Most cars that people care about the tires on will have at least some enthusiast base testing/comparing tires. Even with cheaper/better tires, destroying them like that is still going to cost you ~500? I'm guessing these were EOL, but burnouts are still expensive.

I could never justify the cost in tires. I got rid of my s2000 because I was tired of replacing tires yearly.
