Needing ballast when lightly loaded is not unheard of in other models. Though, usually they just load more fuel than is needed for the flight. But steel plates will do.
You don’t always *want* the largest aircraft possible. You buy based on needs, and they don’t need C-130s, so they didn’t buy them.
On the other hand, 20 whole years and a *lot* of what those educated scientists knew was obsolete overnight. They’re not as precious and indisposable as you propose.

If you check out the website mentioned at the end of the trailer, it explicitly states that Las Vegas was wiped out by a crashing ship. Possibly the one from the Area 51 battle.

Rather than rehash every argument put forward for the Fermi Paradox, and ignoring the Great Filter or the Drake Equation, I’ll just say there are a lot of reasons why we can A) build a ship if we wanted to and B) not observe anyone else who has done the same thing.
