1st Gear: Alternate title - “Make a Mediocre EV, Expect Mediocre Sales

Are we going to talk about transportation on Jalopnik, or is this just a thinly veiled attempt to really fan the flames of class warfare by editorializing on the haves vs. have nots in every single damned article published here these days?

My EV requires an order of magnitude less thought and effort than my gas cars. No oil changes. No air filters. No spark plugs. No gas stations. No clutches and throw out bearings. No diff fluid or pinion seals. No chain lube. No grease fittings. Two years ago I set the max charge and then I was done with maintenance.

No offense, but what are you doing on Jalopnik then?

Polish, wrap, PPF, tint, ceramic coat, etc. Common things for people to do delivery week of a new car

A U.S. CEO can certainly screw things up too, but I don’t think GM’s Carplay decision is even close to the existential problem facing Stellantis.

Hot take incoming.

If automakers weren’t cowards, they would downsize and de-tune their halo cars and focus on delivering an actual driving experience.

Well I mean needing to order 5 times the number of mugs you have employees in the 2 ish years the factory has been open seems odd.

I actually really like this, much better looking than the previous models

This happened 12 months ago with the Model 3 when Q3 2023, people said there was a slow down. Than we found out Tesla was using all the parts in inventory to build as many Model 3s as they could, so they had inventory to take the production lines off and upgrade them for the new “Highland” Model 3 which came out Jan

I am looking forward to finding out what trade secrets they thought they had and why they didn’t file for patent protection for those ideas.

But PHEVs are the cars that benefit from being plugged in to charge, and usually have some sort of non-trivial electric range. I think you mean HEV, which are your standard hybrids, like the Prius, Maverick Hybrid, etc.

He’s parked his current boat in his driveway for four years, and a previous boat for many years prior to suddenly receiving this code compliance notice.

Yes, but 2 of the sections are still cast using the gigacasting method.  So they aren’t giving up on gigacasting, they just aren’t using it for as large a section of the car.  Maybe they should call the even larger sections ‘Teracasting’ so we can distinguish between the 2.

This isn’t the site for you if you want to learn anything about Tesla without an extremely obvious bias. Jalopnik and Teslarati or the two to ignore in my book.

Look, I’m no Tesla fan but they’re not scrapping gigacasting, it’s still used on the front and rear sections.  It even says it right in the article you quoted..

Hate on the iX all you want, at least it doesn’t look like this.

Auto manufacturers, and Porsche especially, make BANK off of options packages.

Out of curiosity, I went and looked for Ocean listings. The cheapest Ocean Extreme for sale in the used market right now is listed for $35k. They may not get that, but I think it’s safe to say that trade-in should be more like $25-30k for a dealer to feel reasonably safe taking it to auction or retailing.
