Sadly I was off They Might Be Giants during this time.I didn't really like John Henry and I was too much an angsty teen to appreciate quirky and fun. Though I did see them on Tour in '97 or '98, somehow I didn't follow them and fully love them until years later.

I'd say about 90-95% of the songs/artists he mentions here are crap. For you Fiona Apple and Dave Matthews Band* would be in that 5-10% Good range. For me, it would be the REM and Cure albums.

I think "Turn My Head" is a pretty beautiful song.

I loved their '95 album "Different Class" I think I first heard it on the Canadian Music station. Nothing else of theirs has ever really grabbed me.

Well, Noel Gallagher might well have liked electronic music but that doesn't mean he wouldn't throw the pint in your face. He was a testy one.

But did you listen to these songs? They were crap.

Thank you again for another excellent article Mr. O'Neal! I don't envy the amount of research you had to go through to put this together. Most of the music mentioned here is just terrible. Somehow I lived through this and made it out the other side. (College helped) What I do like from here is REM's New Adventures in

If you Google Ignatiy Vishnevetsky the second line is "Ignatiy Vishnevetsky Love" I'm not sure if it's because of his wonderful article title for the Movie Love or if it's because he is so dreamy.

A choice quote, one that makes me wonder what the hell the Avenged Sevenfold threads were talking about originally.

Yeah, they are really interesting. We've taken apart a few in my house.

More like Owl Puke, though I guess it serves the function of poop.

The Return of Mr. O'Neal to AV Club has been a godsend.

Not wrong

Ohio is the Heart of it All!

The Penis Mightier!

"Future that never was" makes sense as most of the stuff I seem to like sounds like 80's Sci-Fi soundtracks to me.

I was hoping that M83's "Midnight City" would have ushered in a new Era of Sexy Sax goodness, but alas it did not.

"Wok away man, Wok away!"

It worked (as Performed by Guns N Roses) in Interview With A Vampire. Of course that was about 25 years ago, so maybe not a cliche back then.

Indeed, and uplifting trumpets.
