I would feel better if this was an April fools prank.

+1 man I love that movie.
Linda Ronstadt....
I was really hopeful when I saw the headline, but those hopes were dashed once I read the details.
Ha, Ha! Way to go, Smalls...
Exactly, if i buy a large sedan my family and i are definitely going to drive to Tahoe or LA. With added weight of 4-5 adults not sure how well that charge will hold up. and the last time i was at a pit stop on 80 and 5 there were already teslas charging at the few outlets they have. As the population of these cars…
The magic number is not 200miles. That is a one way trip around here. The magic number is the thousand mile mark. That is for long haul continuous driving with spare change for the inevitable diversions and route changes.
Spot on. Also, Damon mentions going through Gilroy to get to Monterey (from San Francisco, presumably). I live on the coast, and I don't want to detour to get to Gilroy. Nor do I want to hang out while it charges for 40 minutes. I make the trip down to Monterey frequently, and it's 100 miles each way with no side…
Since, apparently, I would be one of the idiots you are talking about: How exactly would I get from Austin to El Paso without running out of battery, in a single day? That is more than possible with a petrol engine because gas stations exist.
Charging for any length of time over 15 minutes is an inconvenience. I'll stick to my diesel cars that can cover 400+ miles on a tank & refill most anywhere quickly without waiting 30+ minutes.
Counter point: SF to Tahoe City, 208 miles. The target market for the Model X makes that trek about every other winter weekend on their BMW X5 or equivalent Merc, Audi, Range Rover, etc. With traffic in the Bay, the big ass incline up to Donner Pass, and the cold, that is not an anxiety free experience unless you stop…
Tesla is still operating at a competitive disadvantage on range compared to traditional cars due to the loss of convenience when compared to cars with combustion engines.
If you have a gasoline-powered car, you know that you don't have to think about where you will fill up or what you will do while the car is filling…
Since day one, the biggest advantage of the Model S hasn't been the speed or the space or even the Supercharger network, it's the range. While nearly every other EV can't crack into the triple-digits, the Model S landed three years ago with a minimum range of 200 miles.
Until they can be recharged in the time it would take to fill up a gas, diesel or hydrogen powered car it's just as impractical.
