A musical based on the original Rocky is opening in Germany in a few months. The creative team, though, is all American—score by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (although incorporating both "Gonna Fly Now" and "Eye of the Tiger"), book by Tom Meehan, and direction by Alex Timbers.

Some do.  For me, it depends on the source material (is it a decent idea for a musical?), the nature of the adaptation (are we getting a new, original score, or is it just gonna be a bunch of songs from the movie?), and the writers on the project (are they any good?).  But some decry it no matter what.
