It really is as simple as you say. Americans voted for him. they chose him knowing what he was like because he was not hiding it. I’m just so ashamed.

I got it wrong - The article said 40th birthday and that the SOL is complicated.

The LA Times article stated that in California it is 40 years SOL for child rape - I think I read that correctly.

The well was from understanding partly where your skewed views abut rape in this country came from and then thinking it would be too difficult to explain why your innocent cases does not change the reality that the rapists are not prosecuted and stopped, Victim’s are blamed and accused of false accusations and not

Oh, I see where you are coming from. Miscarriages of justice/false reports. Well....

The DAs don’t prosecute even when there is a preponderance of the evidence. Isn’t this law going to help DAs prosecute cases that they should be prosecuting? A tiny step?

One of the pieces of evidence in rape cases is the federal law of “prior acts” that is admissible for sexual assault. I know that it is for child sexual abuse - i’m thinking it is also for adult rape as well. A rapist/child molester will have a series of victims in his past, some with strong evidence who never came

I’m questioning this “poor rapists getting a fair trial”, with all due respect to you. It is still extremely difficult to prosecute a rapist. Victims do not come forward. And society predominantly does not side with the victim but sides with the accused. Perhaps you are thinking of a specific violent, stranger rape in

I agree with you. It may be that the previous posters are thinking too narrowly, about a specific kind of rape case? I’m not sure.

I think the college sexual assault campaign supported by the white house and RAINN has helped a lot in bringing attention to this as well.

okay, I clicked on the video link since I felt a bit guilty commenting without doing due diligence and also so I could discuss competently with my daughter this evening and it turns out idiotic only in the sense that really young, entitled, passionate, ignorant and self-absorbed teenagers on social media can be....

Great, my 14 year old daughter was all excited about walking behind “zendara” at 3rd street promenade this past weekend and I had no idea who that was. Now I know she is an idiot.

I knew mine would as well, no matter how well educated and coached she was about the subject.

I see a few problems with your ideas. Serial child molesters often start as teens - allowing some “consensual” statutory rapes to slide by Doesn’t sound right. And also judges in our society are doing a lousy job dealing with rape anD child sexual abuse ... Not sure giving them more leeway is right either.

And I read about a clinic (in Germany maybe) for pedophiles who have never offended and don’t want to ever.

Jon Krakauer in his book “Missoula: Rape and the Justice System in a College Town” showed that there were serial rapists in colleges. I think his specific examples were all student athletes. Are you saying one-offs aren’t real rapists?

Thank you for telling your story. I think it helps everyone understand a little more about this complicated and complex subject.

The “orignal article” we are commenting on isn’t that great. The appellate case is interesting because it is directed to the state add-ons that some states have tried. Not, the original act. I can’t imagine this MI case is Really that strong an indicator that the registry is going to be overturned.

Your story is why there is a sex offender registry.

His wife having to tell her friends of his past is a good thing. This stuff being right out in the open, no chance for that weird denial about child abuse, no secrets is what helps keep children safe.
