It always makes me laugh now because I associate it with how the dad, Martin, says it in Friday Night Dinner.

Italy had actually surrendered by the time Sahara was released. I suspect the propaganda machine was getting fired up quickly - after all, there were plenty of Americans with Italian relatives, and they didn't want to risk Italy turning Communist on them. So Italy gets "rehabilitated" on film really fast.

WW1's hard to make an "appealing" film about because it's mostly normal working-class lads getting suckered into killing each other in colossal war between a group of cousins, over who gets to send those same lads to kill a bunch of normal working-class African and Asian lads while the cousins steal all their stuff

I wonder if part of the reason is because Häyhä was shooting at Allies. Even if, you know, they were Allies who violated a non-aggression treaty in order to invade Finland.

I find it strange you'd describe it as "things getting started a couple of years early". They didn't start early, Americans arrived late.

Then again, ask someone Congolese what they think of the Belgians…

Well, "British Army uniform + moustache" wasn't exactly a rare look in 1917. I wouldn't consider that evidence of relationship just yet.

It's not going to be Alastair Lethbridge-Stewart, but I wouldn't be completely surprised if it turns out he's a Lethbridge-Stewart rather than the Lethbridge-Stewart.

Troughton, Davison and McCoy did three seasons too. And Colin Baker was in the role three years, even if they only did two seasons in that time. So three's really the default tenure.

When I read Claremont's X-Men a few years ago I tried to work out how old everyone was. I'm pretty sure Jean and Cyclops were 19 - 21 around then. Certainly old enough to be living with Misty Knight and holding down a job.

Don't worry. Thanks to your clever username, nobody knows you're really Wedge Antilles. Your secret is safe.

How I reacted to this:

I found a few Sam Glanzman odds and ends online that I'm planning to read. Mostly history comics he illustrated about the First World War and Pearl Harbor.

Huh. I thought (funny "punch dimension" moniker aside) it already was. Funny how fan theories can become so ingrained everyone starts to think they're official.

Awkward Christmas dinner there then…

True.

Trying to think of some of my favourites that people haven't already mentioned…

Given that it was their "jamming song", there's nearly always a standout solo in any version of "Kitty's Back". I was listening to a great version from Brisbane in '14 just yesterday.

I did a fantastic heartbeat solo for 4'33" once. Then everybody complained it was too quiet.

Dublin. I don't like it much. Lived in Cork for five years, and it was great. Dublin's an ugly, expensive city. And now that I've finally made a few friends here I don't want to throw that out and start all over again somewhere else.
