I was ready to say the Mini costs and weighs too much, but the numbers are $30k (minus tax rebate) and 3000 lbs. This is actually a good option, assuming you ignore the glut of used electrics on the market. 

Publishing a lower range isn't going to reduce warranty claims by itself, but limiting the battery capacity artificially will definitely reduce battery warranty claims. That said, it's a crappy corner to cut on a $180k+ vehicle.

No, it is worse because the X-series crossovers were in addition to RWD car options. This FWD 2-series is really instead of a RWD 2-series.
