Yeah, A New Hope makes it clear that the heroes were allowed to escape. The Empire was shown to be very practical and effective in A New Hope and Empire. They’re really very good at baiting their opponents into no-win situations.

I wish more people would notice this. A lot of times I meet fans that think Vader is an

I agree, but to be honest the whole concept is to provide a catalyst for human drama. Take it out and you lose a big part of the story.

Basically this is one of those tithing that don’t make sense if you over think it. It only exists to drive part of the story.

Less human drama that way.

The science in Pacific Rim doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, but that wasn’t the point. The plot contrivance of drifting existed to create drama for the story.

Agreed.

I tend to temper my expectations of creative people I like. Sure they may create some things I like, but I try to avoid putting them on too high a pedestal.

Take Gene Roddenberry. He had some great ideas, but he could also be a bit of a creep. My greatest example of this would be Alfred Hitchcock. Master filmmaker for

Loved every second of it.

The Nickelodeon TMNT show had its high points, but I never liked the way they had Raphael interact with the other turtles. He comes across as a bully. I like this interaction better.

Now playing

In retrospect I have an admiration for the film. Superman’s first act upon returning was to save a bunch of people. The movie, even with its flaws, GETS Superman.

Take this scene. Superman intervenes, stops the bad guy and doesn’t hurt him. Why? Because he’s Superman, and he doesn’t need to, and he doesn’t WANT to.

I remember some people not liking the pacing, calling it boring. I personally wanted more action.

I remember coming out of the theater and thinking that SR was okay, but it would be awesome to have Superman duke it out with Zod with modern special effects.

Well, you know how that turned out.

It looks like Marvel is really trying with Ragnarok, but one thing troubles me.

Thor has basically been the Worf of the MCU. He gets consistently beaten down and humiliated at every turn. The only fights he clearly won were in his first film. In Avengers he jobs to Iron Man and gets smacked around by the Hulk. In Thee

Speaking of Superman Returns, remember when fans were complaining that the Superman film WASN’T violent enuogh?

Oh god, I can’t believe I’ve already forgotten about Gotham.

I only watched the pilot.

A hammer does not make you a carpenter. A paint brush does not make you Rembrandt. Is that what you’re saying?

It makes sense. If I had the old dusty piano in my elementary school music class or a million dollar...whatever, it wouldn’t make a difference, but a concert hall master could totally demonstrate the

I enjoyed Cloverfield too, by the way. The occasional found footage film is fun to see in a theater with an audience. Yes I’m one of those people that enjoys audience reactions. Sometimes.

But familiarity breeds contempt. You get the idea.

Oh god, you jumped on the band wagon of people trying to be clever over the phrase couldn’t care less/could car less.

Aren’t you the least bit embarrassed that you don’t have anything clever to say that you can’t borrow some from someone else?

You wouldn’t have any snark on the matter if you hadn’t read about it

Don’t care. I watched Blair Witch in the theater. I loved watching how much people got into it. The film really succeeded at feeling like we were watching real people to its credit. The gimmick was fun then, but I could care less now.

I think by this point we need an easily understood rating system to understand how good a DC adaption is.

At the top we have the Beloved things. The Dark Knight, 1978 Superman. DCAU.

Then we have the popular but not universally popular stuff. CW Flash for instance. Or basically all the current CW stuff.

Maligned Thing

No it would not be cool. Yes there would be people who would be elated to get a hold of some of that information, just as there are some Republicans just itching to dig through this data.

There will always be hypocrites on any side of a debate. You can be sure of that.

They mention spice in the movie, but I think it’s intended as a Dune reference. The EU did define spice as a drug, but as you said we don’t know with the new canon.

I like the idea of that, but it doesn’t make too much sense if you overthink it.

Star Wars ships have a lot of technology that break physics. They can generate gravity, break the speed of light, and negate the effects of mass, inertia, and acceleration.

Shaving off a few hundred tons wouldn’t change too much. But yes,
