I’ve never read the book, but dear God, that all sounds even worse than I imagined! Sounds like book Hooper is more like Dreyfuss in real life than movie Hooper.  And Brody in the movie, in my opinion, is one of the best Everyman dad characters in cinema.

“I kind of want to see a classic film with commentary from one of the actors, but I also want to see an old kook go batshit insane in real time. If only there was a way to do both...”

It would’ve been poignant indeed. But I have to say I love Hooper’s personality makeover and his intelligence at scooting out of the cage and hiding in the sea bed. One of my favorite parts of the movie. I did enjoy the novel (WTH, I was just a kid of 10 when I read it and I was all agog “Is this really how grownups

I WISH I could be an octopus. Octopuses are amazing.

Richard Dreyfus is not amazing. He should probably try to be an octopus.

That’s why I gave KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park hosted by Paul & Gene a miss.

Boy he’s more washed up then the shark.

The Godfather

He used to be! Back during the Bush era I remember him making the rounds bashing the Iraq War and insisting that schools had to go back to teaching civics so that we’d have an informed electorate.

Are you thinking of the dedicated public-school music teacher he played in Mr Holland’s Opus?

Yeah they completely rewrote the character for Dreyfuss so much that Spielberg told him not to even read the book.

Theater: “Join us for our screening of Jaws with Richard Dreyfus!”

Dreyfus: “Let’s talk about trans people and #MeToo!”

Audience: “How the fuck did we get here?!”

The shark is a metaphor for wokeness.

Well whatever you think of his views, at least he picked the right time and place to express them

… my friends and me

I love the scene where they compare the scars from their various poxes and agues.

The part where the two guys try to catch the germs with a holiday roast is epic.

Midsommar was also scary prescient re: last week’s Man or Bear debate. The solution (SPOILER)

i was actually excited when i clicked this article and discovered it wasnt a slideshow. somehow made monday suck a little less.

All hail the new overlords, who didn’t make this a goddamn slideshow!

It’s great, because it’s typical Boomer nonsense to describe anything that they didn’t learn when they were in school as a lie, but also the nature of “History wasn’t erased, if it was, we would have a record of it” is inherently hilarious.
