I'd start with Arkham Asylum, because it's short (5-6 hours if you stay on the "beaten path").
I have the same issue, although I've had the most problems with Singularity up until now, couldn't play that game for even a minute. I had to resort to external programs to increase the FOV value to something like 90.

I always wait two or three months before I get new games. Prices usually drop after that time, especially on Amazon. There's enough content on this planet that makes waiting easy.

I haven't heard of Time Hollow before, but judging by its Wikipedia entry, I'd say it's very similar. (:
I think 999 is a perfect example of how a game is able to make readers out of gamers. I love reading books and playing games and 999 combined the best of both worlds.
