The very good 1978 adaptation with Peter Ustinov also stays true to that structure.
“From the writers that brought you Batwoman” doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence on top of such an already derivative premise. The show has some good elements, but “incredible writing” isn’t among them.
I totally agree, asking Renee to gain weight for a role is ridiculous.
I don’t think a fat suit is inherently problematic. Sometimes actors have to use makeup or prosthetics to look like the character they’re playing. That’s part of the job, and saying that they should hire an actor who looks more like the character isn’t a logical solution every time.
