Canadian tv contracts are usually 4 years but when the show does well in the US, they usually renegotiate in the 2nd or 3rd season (like Orphan Black, Kim’s and Schitt’s)to extend the option 2 more years. The contracts don’t work like that. It’s always up to the production whether they want to bring the character back for another season. 

There is also a clip floating around the interweb (I need a teenager to find it) where Chris Evans and Chris Pine are crossing paths at an event and Chris Evans says something like ‘don’t look at me with those eyes Chris Pine’, acknowledging his hotness.
