One day, a woman might love you, but probably not.

I wouldn’t say Captain Marvel’s not funny, but I have no idea how someone can call her the funniest character in the movie when Sam Jackson is right there, killing it.
I liked that the main villain of the film was literally gaslighting Carol. Can’t tap into the female experience for superhero audiences more than that.
Especially when you consider that one of the go-to racist fears about immigrants is that they’ll steal our jobs, marry our women, inject their values into our society - essentially, that they’ll infiltrate us and we won’t see it happening. A shapeshifting Skrull correlates with an immigrant doing all the things that…
I generally have a lot of faith in AV Club film reviews, and so went into the theater tonight with lowered expectations. But I didn’t need to be primed for disappointment. It was really good.
Cry some more little boy. Cry some more.
Playing the victim will only get you so far in life.
I would have preferred all-’90s riot grrrl hits, kicking Nirvana to the curb—get some Veruca Salt and Liz Phair in there!
Oh Christ another micro aggression
Oh Jesus christ get the fuck over yourself. You’re not being oppressed in any way. I imagine being around your is an exhausting affair as you try your hardest to become a victim whenever possible.
I sat behind an 11 year old girl who turned to her father when it was over and said, “Ask me what my favorite movie of all time is?” When he asked, she said, “Captain Marvel.”
That’s how they plan to get the financing for Full Nelson.
I mean, the review says upfront that Brie Larson was well cast: “Not that Larson doesn’t bring confidence and chutzpah to her underwritten role. (Spot-on casting has always been one of Marvel’s strong points.)“
They have to hype to get clicks, not because they like the movies. Infinity War got a negative review.
As someone who’s enjoyed Marvel films and isn’t a comic book fan, I think “sucking the joy out the film to give it more meaning” isn’t a good strategy going forward. Some of the films seem just too earnest and dark. Can’t they have more fun? And some of us don’t want to eat our spinach.
By super hero film standards, Wonder Woman should already have shut down that conversation. It won’t. It never will. Captain Marvel could be the greatest production ever reduced to film and it wouldn’t change those assholes’ minds.
If Captain Marvel is going to lead the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward, I hope the writers can figure out a way to make her more compelling, and soon. Based on Ignatiy’ review, I’m a bit worried for the next phase of Marvel after it loses its existing leads. Captain Marvel in the comics hasn’t always been the…
Hating on Air Force movies???
Oh, I’m doing the same. I just don’t want another Ghostbusters on our hands, where we get annoying fanboys whining about how putting a woman in anything makes it bad.
I reserve the right to make up my own mind about this movie, regardless of online impressions. I still plan to go watch it as I have yet to be disappointed by a MCU film.
