I was going to say that was the ONE nitpick I had for this episode, since Cherry was amazing as Black Magic for someone who was portrayed as having Tommy Wiseau-esque line readings (of course a bad acted Black Magic would have ruined the entire bit).

Cherry Bang got a lot better at acting.

The show has two major problems: William and Dolores.

“For the most part the writing in this series has been top-notch.”

I have the same problem. I don’t care about any of the characters, or anything that happens to them.

Well yes. It takes place in a world of super heroes. Of course there are superior beings there.

Counterpoint: she looks fine in that photo, even if she was heavier then than she is now.

This is the best take. See: The Last Jedi on heroic sacrifice.

I’m spitballing here, so bear with me, but I think there’s some distinctions between Snoke and Palpatine that make the criticism valid. Let me demonstrate by way of an analogy.

This. I’ve never seen a movie work so hard to walk away from what could have been well earned moments

Actually I like that they don’t go there. There are plenty of people - especially in the age range of Gaga fans - who have no idea what the previous ones were about or that they even existed. I like that they’ll get to go in somewhat fresh. (Although this is only the first teaser/trailer and they usually come back

Dolores has not been my favorite character this season, but I think I love her for wiping that perma-smirk off Hale’s face, if only for a little while.

Female superheroes do often get this sort of ultra-sexualized treatment. However, when you think of the movies that did that for their main hero, like Catwoman or Barb Wire . . . they’re not exactly fondly remembered, either.

To me it sounded like she was saying “You might have m—” and then stopped herself. I wondered if she was pondering whether Philip might’ve married Irina but then realized she didn’t want to go down that road.

Hitch is not a Magical Negro character. The criteria is that they exist solely to help the white protagonist on their journey, while not gaining anything or growing themselves.

Yeah, it’s worth noting that when this movie came out, “Pick Up Culture”’s entire media exposure was that one article about Terriffica where Mystery shows up briefly as the heel. Not that there weren’t assholes macking on women. But it wasn’t commodified and grown into a subculture like it is now. Hitch isn’t a PUA as

You managed to live the dream of drawing a paycheck for years by dumping over Christopher. You’re an inspiration to us all.

So, if Nick’s on the outs with his father and couldn’t use the family goon squad, just who were those two guys with him? It would actually fit perfectly for Riverdale to have some free-floating gang muscle business.

I’m not sure what the road from insanely cute young actress with a promising career to panderer for a scuzzy cult leader is like but I imagine it’s not a pleasant journey.

Barry stars Bill Hader in the titular role as a depressed, low-rent hit man from the Midwest.
