I must have been around 12 the first time I finished the first Shining Force game. Having the hero you play as the whole game sacrifice himself at the end was pretty powerful stuff. Especially when it's the only time he ever talks during the game.

Most true "sandbox" games aren't really games at all. So yeah, Garry's mod is a perfect example. Minecraft is a good example of a sandbox that's slowly had a game built on it. Kerbal Space Program has an awesome sandbox mode.
