I would, and have, written free code — and any recipient would have been wealthy enough to pay me. Plenty of people in my field will spend days researching for invited tech blog posts, (unpaid) presentations at prestigious conferences, Nth authorships on a paper with a fun professor when Google (or grant money) would

I don't work in a "creative" industry, so I can't say I relate (no one has ever tried to make me write "fan code" in C++.) But the tone of this article feels overwhelmingly cynical — in the same way that I thought the conversation surrounding Zach Braff and his (piece of shit) movie was cynical. Fans like to engage

DFW has a few distinct voices — Infinite Jest alone showcases at least three. The one he's probably most notorious for is "Dense, longwinded descriptions of otherwise monotonous things." That's the voice which busts out obscure vocabulary and hundreds of footnotes about brands of aspirin, and it makes up the Tennis

That was the joke

Auburn will never be the same

I'd be furious if I were in your shoes, but as a reader, I am so happy this happened. I don't think I've seen a case of misquoting this obviously damning — not only that you were referring to a hypothetical other David O Russell movie, but that you were referring to a hypothetical bad one.

It was. I do wish he'd ended it on "Do you like your life?" though — adding on the house and the jet and the "shut the floink up" felt like he was softening the blow for the crowd. I feel like someone could plausibly leave that bit not realizing the wife is a total victim here.

I got sympathy embarrassment just reading the title. Joking about Cosby this late in the game should be about as edgy as joking about George Bush. But you know what? Dude did pretty OK. Not amazing, but pretty OK.

If I search for "That's the beauty of it…it doesn't do anything!", will the entire system come crumbling down, Gödel style?

Even though Conan clearly must know this is coming (I assume he screens everything the AV guys air on the show), I love both of their commitment to the surprise.

Golf clap for "El Hombre Del Letra"

Absolutely loved Jimmy Kimmel on YMIW last week. What a joyful way to spend two hours.

I've definitely been using this for at least 5 years, to the point where I didn't even realize it was opt-in only. Who knew you could get an article about something 6 years after the fact?

I think the issue is that "X was as big a deal podcast-wise" isn't a complete thought, so shouldn't be broken up by a comma unless it's to pause for an aside.

I think the intention was to also have a comma before, "podcast-wise."

I guess the Intro says "What the Fuck" so many times, I'm unclear how Marc would want it pronounced

It's a shame, because I actually love the Sex And The City 2 concept more than the Grown Ups 2 one. The first few episodes of Season 2 were magical. But lately it's felt too perfunctory.

I did a literal, cartoon-ish double-take when I saw the title of this article. A sitting president recording a podcast which has the word "Fuck" in the title?! Amazing! I just hope we don't turn any thoughtful statements into needless controversies about language…

It's funny, I also would say that the only wine blander than Merlot is Pinot — which is why Giamatti's rant is so odd. I live near Napa, and when I go tasting, my favorite is routinely a Merlot blend (though for flavor, I'd rather go full Syrah or Cab Sauv). Pinots are almost always too muted.
