True. My wife’s car was purchased at a toyota dealership, and they shopped out the loans at a few banks for us. The ford dealership I purchased offered their own financing. It really just depends.

Yes, Nice work!

I got 0% at full retail on my last vehicle. I didn’t have cash at that time to pay it off early. It’s paid off now.

Nice work! That’s exactly my reasoning behind it. They think they will make more money in the long run, so they give you a better deal up front.

I don’t consider purchasing a vehicle comparable to making an investment. It’s a necessity. I’m not worried about depreciation as I will likely use it for at least decade. I am saving and investing now, so that I will have the extra funds when the time comes to make a purchase.

In general that is true, and I do have other investments as well. But the market is not stable right now, and I’d rather have no additional debt at the moment to keep my monthly spending down. Maybe in a few years it will be more stable.

Right, I haven’t heard of a dealership having early payoff fees, but you never know.

When I bought my truck several years ago they were offering two financing options. One was for a shorter term, but higher interest rate with a highly discounted sticker price. The other option was 0% for 72 months at full retail. The second option was actually cheaper in the long run, so I went with that.

No, I always say what I mean. I even said it was poached in my original comment. Yes, you will benefit from using an immersion circulator, but it’s not necessary. Warm water baths are normally only used for sous vide (and the only reason I mentioned it), and not poaching.

Found the recipe. Good luck!

I know the difference, but without the use of a sous vide water bath it is extremely difficult to poach at such a low temp for that long amount of time. It’s necessary to the recipe just as it is to many of the others listed here.

Would it be sous vide if you put the oil and egg yolks in a plastic vacuum sealed bag? #pedantic

Yeah, I bet that would work fine.

I’m going to have to give your scrambled eggs a try. I will be using a “poor man’s sous vide” (big pot on the smallest burner, on low, with a thermometer), so anything over 30-35 mins is too much work.

Instead of a bag of ice, just take some canned air and blast the thermostat with the can turned upside down. That should do the trick.

Excel is really impressive if you know how to use it right...

As a Texan this hits all too close to home. My stepfather was laid off last year due to this. He was a safety manager at a company that rented drilling equipment, and they lost the majority of their business due to the falling oil prices.

I’m having trouble understanding the first example as a story about generosity... He poked a hole in his own multi-million dollar painting (also likely insured), and decided to not be upset about it. What is generous about that?
