The way you tell it, it seems like that Microsoft is only putting in the software to support it, yet leaving the choice to do so up to each individual publisher. I can see someone like EA using this to instantly register a game (i.e Madden or NCAA) and send you day-1 dlc without making people input codes for it.

Or even better, publishers that like to put out day-1 downloadable content (like EA) could have you plug into this to register your game without having to enter an activation code.

So it seems that the 'always online' part coincides with entertainment related features. Every calm down, for now at least.
