You are absolutely right. In fact, the NES could render more pixels than even the Gameboy Color. The only hardware advantage that the Gameboy had to the NES was its flexible sound chip.

Not only is it 16-BIT, but the sound stutters. This can be resolved by disabling audio acceleration in Windows, but you can't do it on anything newer than XP. Thankfully, GOG patched these games up.
