However, there is a point at which they simply out-play you, and you can’t really keep up.  I used to play games with my son all the time, but he quickly outpaced me.  It stopped being fun for either of us so I don’t really do it any more.  I’ll watch for a while, but we can’t play together.

Back in the 80's my mom insisted that I take a touch typing summer class before my senior year in high school.. She knew I would need it if I was interested in coding. I resisted but eventually gave in.

Just wondering, Am I the only adult who has a mental picture of a number line when adding and subtracting?  Does anyone else picture ANYTHING in their head when they do math?  My wife and son look at me like I’m nuts when I mention this.

“hey google” or “ok google?”

I’m always amazed at people who have friends since grade school. Even when our family stayed in one place for a long time, I found people changed too much to remain friends for more than a couple of years..

I know this is gonna sound like trolling, and it probably is, but this all sounds like just too much work.

If you are unlucky, they will like something you can’t stand. Then you will be called a bad parent because you don’t bond with them over it.

Personally, give me a stack of books and some beer. Or a dozen movie tickets and beer. No family. No dog. Nobody who needs anything from me.  Just for 72 hours.

Ummmmm...

The spine-in look works for my books by atheist authors, so my son's  friends don't go home and tell their parents that I'm a heathen.

I just eat at the bar

Take along a small power strip.  You will become the savior of the waiting area.

It’s my understanding that they sneak into the unused cab from the outside at the rear of the train. I suspect that there is a cab at either end so the train doesn’t need to turn around to change direction.

How exactly do you do that surreptitiously? A message is a message. Either you respond or you don’t.

And what the heck do they mean by “sliding in?”

What the hell is a DM?

It’s a running joke over at askamanager.org that college career services are often out of touch with the real world, rarely helpful and often harmful. Your mileage may vary, but be warned.

If taxi drivers made a living wage, I don’t think that was out of the kindness of their employers. It was because the employers lobbied the city governments to artificially restrict the supply of hack licenses. while the cab drivers made a good living, the cab companies did well too, without really needing to innovate

You speak of companies not being responsible for wages and will only pay what the market will bear but that’s simply not true. Companies will pay as little as they can get away with knowing that they can have welfare programs pick up the slack or buy politicians to avoid regulation.

I’m not OK with it. I’m just saying we shouldn’t act surprised when companies pay poverty wages. It’s their purpose to maximize profits, plain and simple. If we want to prevent that then we vote in politicians that will pass laws that fix that problem.
