You speak of companies not being responsible for wages and will only pay what the market will bear but that’s simply not true. Companies will pay as little as they can get away with knowing that they can have welfare programs pick up the slack or buy politicians to avoid regulation.
I’m not OK with it. I’m just saying we shouldn’t act surprised when companies pay poverty wages. It’s their purpose to maximize profits, plain and simple. If we want to prevent that then we vote in politicians that will pass laws that fix that problem.

I don’t know if this is too old-school, but your company’s 401k is a good start (if they have one). It’s easy to have it taken out of your paycheck, and most companies will match funds up to a certain percent.
I always thought of these ride sharing jobs as supplemental income. I mean, it’s right there in the name “ride sharing”. You are going for a ride somewhere (work, home, shopping), so you logon to the app and share your ride with someone else for money.
