It depends on the size of your trashcan and bag, and the durability of the bag.. If the trash bag is not deep enough for the can, then yes it’s going to get pulled down as the bag fills. I do this with the large trashcan in our garage, but instead of clipping it at the top edge, i fold the bag over top and clip it under the ‘lip’ of the trashcan.

I thought of that too, but then if you have a leak in the bag, it can allow nasty stuff to drip out
