No it isn't overtly mentioned on the show. But the fact that the pre-Gilead days we see in flashback are pretty close to our present day in terms of technology, it seems safe to infer that fertility medicine existed at one time in this world and yet it it very clearly is not employed in Gilead. From that it seems

If I'm remembering the epilogue correctly, his downfall is directly related to harboring a dissident in his home, either Offred or Nick or both, so if we see his comeuppance before the series finale it will be a major departure and one I'm not sure I'd like.

Well it's entirely possible that I'm projecting my book knowledge onto the show. But things like fertility treatment being cast aside for handmaids pretty strongly implies it, I think.

Precisely my thoughts. A strange call on the show's part.

I have been told that those people are there to "teach" the robots how to navigate the sidewalks until they have enough input to have learned how to do it.

I was so sure A Woman's Place was going to slyly refer to Jezebel's as much as it did SJ's book. But, yeah, I don't know how we get there at this point, given the direction the story seems to be taking.

I do have to say that I'm kind of questioning the worldbuilding decisions revealed in that last conversation with the Mexican ambassador. The depths of the fertility crisis—not one baby born in a whole city in more than half a decade—kind of undercuts the whole, the commanders of Gilead don't really care about

I have never heard someone use it who wasn't a women-hating troll. It makes my skin crawl just seeing it written out and I know I am not alone. The implication underlying an accusation of the term is that men who express any feminist language or ideas are only doing so to increase their chances of getting laid.

I see them every day. They are cute, but not Mail Robot-level amazing. Also, they take up a lot of sidewalk space.

Why in the fuck are you responding to a comment on a two-year-old piece of news?

The Sandwich Mail Robot judges not. So long as you don't kick it.

Genius!

All variety of sandwiches. A different kind for every compartment. And some pitchers of cocktails riding around on top.

I would fill all the compartments with sandwiches.

She wishes!

Is it wrong if someone loves this show more than her family? I'm asking for a friend.

I won't like any comment that uses the odious and sexist term white knighting, but I do agree with you that the show (and the book too) is excellent at pointing out microaggressions as well as the big patriarchy takeover stuff.

So far as I can tell, the Marthas never leave the house unless the handmaiden is occupied with some activity of state. And I'm sure they work like dogs, keeping those big houses clean, cooking three meals a day, plus hosting gatherings of the wives and baking cakes and such to take to other wives. And they also can't

Seconding.

I can't see See Food even getting to the point of apologies and patches though. Just failing. You have to suceed at least somewhat to be able to pull off that shit.
