Not to mention that the copying and playback of digital material doesn't result in source degradation as with analog sources. Even MP3s are going to remain consistently lossy, and won't get scratches or binder degradation. Reproduction itself is also way more predictable, and cheaper.

Digital is still better than analog in general for me, but it's amazing what you can squeeze out of good cassette, especially as slow as they run across the head.

Tapes aren't any less analog than vinyl (except DAT), and since the '50s pretty much all vinyl releases were originally recorded on tape.

If you record and playback cassette tapes with the most recent noise reduction technology developed for them and either chrome or metal tape, they can sound almost as good as CD's, and certainly better than vinyl.

Manually cleaning with a hexane-based head cleaner will be a lot more effective.
