Why all the talk about "if" outside installations are allowed? The answer to that question is already known: yes. Given that fact, I say hells to the yes on having a Mac app store.

As a Mac user, I go with Safari. FireFox has given me little reason to change. Ditto with Chrome.
The only concern I have is that my neighbors might sponge off my WiFi, suck up my precious bandwidth, get infected with viruses and bring my ISPs security folks down on me. No one has any reason to "hack" me or my network. Therefore, I find restricting by MAC address perfectly adequate.
I'm not a big fan of students forwarding their campus email to another account. That other account often involves an overeager spam filter which junks important messages.
I used yellow legal pads. One for each class. I'd find the main idea, sketch a rectangle around it, then arrows down to sub-ideas which I would draw circles around. Somehow the geometry of it all helped me zero in on the important topics. Once a prof asked to see my notes. Said he thought I was just doodling! I…
I think it's also important to know that forcing the flash to fire in well-lit situations can enhance a person's appearance, too. Forcing a flash when shooting someone outdoors in daylight can eliminate shadows on the face and thus the appearance of wrinkles, etc. Observe how the flash in this shot makes me appear…
But if your old tees are in ok condition, donate them to teecycle.org. On the flip side, if you want to score some seriously cool vintage tees, you can do that through them, too.
Then unjailbreak it a week from now so you can get the software update fix for the exploit.
@Mickets: They would not sell more by doing so.
I'm stunned by the 57% of LH readers who jailbreak their iOS devices. I suppose that the number of jailbreakers among the whole iOS-owner population is less than 1%. Which indicates to me that LH readers are far more nerdy than I would have expected. Maybe this place really IS the new slashdot...
You have to root the phone to remove crapware because Android is so "open."
When I saw the headline on the RSS feed I was like "ha! We'll see if they have the sense to recommend something sharp, simple, fast and cheap like a 50mm 1.8——wait, what? Oh. :)
I hate when people in my own workplace don't include a phone number in their sig. It's often the case that I need to call you after reading your email. Please spare me the hassle of looking up your number.
It's ok for now, but what worries me is the future. When we're all making video calls to each other and streaming Netflix and Hulu to our devices, then suddenly those tiered prices aren't going to seem so sweet. I worry that this model will stifle these kind of new capabilities.
@r3loaded: They aren't pushing anything on anyone. iAds are ads that app developers choose to put in their free or cheap apps so they can make money. You don't see the ad unless you download one of these apps. Apple isn't pushing ads on unsuspecting iPhone users. Free or $0.99 apps already often have ads.
@fuchikoma: Shut off multitasking entirely? Doubtful, but I feel you on that one. On the other hand, Apple has not implemented full multitasking for apps, just certain tasks. (Audio keeps playing in the background, notifications can still be received, task completion can occur, etc.—not the full app running in the…
Good ol' lifehacker is becoming more Mac hostile by the minute. I was struck by it when I read the Android iPhone comparison—especially since the rebuttal came not from iPhone users with legitimate grievances with the article, but from WebOS enthusiasts. Seriously?
Am I the only one thinking of Roy Scheider learning to tie a knot onboard the Orca in Jaws?
I say iPhone. So far. There are a lot of Android-based handsets out there, but only 2 or 3 of them are even in the iPhone league. Those few are terrific, terrific phones. But as someone else already pointed out, the fabulousness of a technology device isn't just an impressive list of features and buttons; it's…
