Here’s what never makes to me about jingoism:

“We’re so awesome and can take on anyone and anything” gets coupled with “we can’t handle it when a percentage of our population looks/thinks/worships like not us”

If your self image of how awesome you are revolves around how you shouldn’t have to walk down the same street

Well, Deena sleeps with children, so...

For fuck’s sake people. I can’t even offer anything besides that because there’s no arguing with these type of people. Literally ANY study, ANY report, ANY info at all that you could try to show them to counteract what they believe and they just dismiss it as being untrue “because”.

I’ve personally found that being white in America is a pretty sweet deal. I’m always puzzled as to how these folks can’t grasp that.

Nordstrom will turn any bra into a nursing bra for $16 (I think that's the cost.) I'm planning on doing this for at least a few bras for the later months when I want a nice looking bra that supports me well and I'm not taking my boobs out every hour, or so it felt like last kid.

I did eventually find a different Motherhood and Maternity in a city over 200 miles away that carries larger sizes. I think I found a 38 G that...works, I guess?

People will be satisfied when films reflect the reality of our populations:

Also, can someone please explain why the bitchy saleslady at Motherhood and Maternity INSISTED that they didn’t sell a single nursing bra over an E cup when that is patently false? (They go up to like, a G or something! Golly gee willikers, thanks a whole shit ton M & M.)

Yep, my strategy in my second pregnancy has been:

Maternity pants (jeans in particular) are the absolute best. I don’t understand why we don’t wear these suckers all the time. I had my daughter 2 and a half years ago and couldn’t handle the trauma of finding pants that fit my new “mom bod.” I rock a ton of dresses now.

... why was pregnant women’s clothing not allowed to be housed with other women’s clothing?

Where I live you get a mandatory home visit from a nurse within your first week home with your newborn to check on the health of mom and baby, help with breastfeeding and answer any questions. I really appeciated this when I had my kids. Anything like this in the States?

There’s a scene on the CBS show Criminal Minds in which JJ, a pregnant FBI profiler, halts a conversation about a killer to put headphones over her pregnant belly.

So commenters, what’s your take on folks who expect people to be called by their given names(ie,Katherine instead of Kathy, etc). I have a name that is - in my opinion - infantilized so that people don’t have to say three syllables when addressing me. And the “short version doesn’t even resemble the spelling of my

The crazy bit was a cheap shot, but is anybody else worried Palin had a stroke or suffered some other form of brain damage? I seem to remember her being able to form sentences that weren’t just word salad.

Except he is better than my drunk uncle because instead of saying a racist thing, he says a progressive thing :)

DO NOT TAKE HER BACK TO THE SHELTER. We had a cat we adopted with fiv and he lived a long, comfortable life with us.

I can’t get the idea out of my head that she’s related to Ginuwine and drives a Benz. I feel like if she were my aunt, she would take me on Treat Yo Self days, and it would be awesome.

Exactly. When I got pregnant last winter I was in no shape financially to have a kid, but other than being a poor 26 year old my life was (and is!) going pretty smoothly. Loving partner, loving parents, and a steady job (that doesn’t pay enough to raise a child but I do OK). Still not the right time for me to have a

Forgot to add at the end of the first paragraph that it is dangerous to paint ourselves into the corner of abortion being exclusively for the short list of “rape and incest survivors, women whose lives are in peril.” Every woman deserves to make her own decision based on all her life circumstances, without
