Butter’s a fairly popular coffee additive in Ethiopia, although the people who use sugar and the people who use salt think it’s gross (and vice-versa). Evidently, using milk isn’t a thing there.

Butter is basically milk without the carbs, so that would be why. The association I have, though, is Ethiopia, as it’s one of the three coffee-additive camps, along with sugar and salt. Each of the three thinks the other two are weird.
