I think you’re underestimating the potential to rig the mechanism to act as a dropped jaw — think of the aoooga opportunity!

My chevy had a recall for seatbelts potentially breaking in a crash due to metal fatigue from over use.  Ill take a chime defect over that any day.

“Tesla should probably just tell its customers that its cars are in perpetual beta.”

I thought “Irony” was Bender’s sister?

You just don’t gain anything from a hybrid setup other than going electric over residential areas to make it quieter. There’s no regenerative braking when you fly so you are just adding weight and complexity for nothing. Anecdotally I speak a little from experience as the sponsor of my grad project kept wanting to

I suspect the cost savings are going to be so significant that the charging infrastructure cost won’t be enough of a concern to delay things.  The maintenance reduction alone would be worth it, let alone cost of fuel.

Yes. Because an airplane that holds maybe 30 people (quoted number is 20 - 40) is totally the same as a high-speed rail commuter train that holds a couple hundred people. The cost of a “commuter airplane” ticket will be absolutely in line with a commuter rail ticket.

Glad they’re gone, but nothing is going to happen to them. As always in things like this, I would love to be proved wrong.

This story broke due to the efforts of AL dot com reporter John Archibald. He not only dove deep into this piece, but has done outstanding follow-up reporting. Maybe link to his original work instead of the aggregated piece in The Guardian?

Fucking resignations. Half these fuckheads will resign and go to another city/county/state and get another law enforcement job, where they’ll probably shoot some black kid or rape some woman they were supposed to be driving home from a car accident.

And this is what you get in a society that fetishizes guns.

same. I just kinda wave at assholes now. I’m sure they know I’m being sarcastic, but I’m not being aggressive either.. passive aggressive, I guess, but whatever. - like you said, “Ain’t worth it”

Put your airplane in airplane mode.

This is how it should be! Lots of cars nowadays are stupidly overpowered for most people. There’s a huge portion of the population that just needs a transportation appliance, and never pushes the pedal down more than halfway. For them, the increased range is much more important than a 0-60 time under 5 seconds. I

Hot take: I really like the new Kia logo. Maybe it’s just me, but I like it’s simplicity.

The chart is 100% relevant. You said “theft is theft.” That chart illustrates the scale of different kinds of theft, and shows that wage theft is by far the greater problem in terms of the dollar value. I suspect it’s also the greater problem in terms of the number of people directly affected - more people experience

Sounds like another corporation maximizing it’s profits while blaming any shortcomings on the government.

Acknowledging the reasons people steal helps to understand the entire problem. It doesn’t necessarily absolve the people who committed the crimes but crime also doesn’t happen in a vacuum, there are systemic factors that make crime more likely to happen. Acting like it’s just ingrained malice or whatever doesn’t help

I used to do work like this. we had a guy at the docks that would call when a container ship full of TV/VCR combos would come in, he would tell me what truck and what highway it was on

Always sounded a bit like an inside job. There’s a train that tends to park right across the road I need to use to get to work. In the 10 minutes that train is parked, if I ran out and opened a 2-3 containers, I’m sure I would find a life time supply of pencil sharpeners, an assload of laxatives, a couple reams of
