I don't watch Clone Wars, just wondering who Goebbels and Himmler are in this comparison?

You're right, it is bad. There isn't funny takes on prison films throughout, I felt no sense of melancholly as the characters people have cared about for about ten years came towards the end of the relationship that has defined their life.
The idea of magic/superstition and technology/rationality coming into conflict could be interesting, but I doubt Davies is the man to properly develop it.
I assume the writer didn't know - I was under the impression he's been working solidly, just on lower profile stuff.
He's never boring, but a lot of the time in his Doctor Who stuff I wished he'd be a little bit boring. He's a really infuriating writer, as he's full of ideas, but a lot of them are so badly executed, I wish he had someone holding him back.
I think the actors have to play their part as well. The shot with Jamie Lannister and the direwolf, he's selling the reality with his reaction. There's a shot in one of the Star Wars prequels where Grievous (I think?) is waving around his light-sabers, and Ewan McGregor's stood there, stony-faced, not reacting at all.
It reminds me of a criticism of the first Spiderman, that there were times (mainly in the fighting) where you're impressed with how great the SFX are. But the best are the ones that extend the illusion of the film.
I was thinking the same. Also about Clint Eastwood's character in Unforgiven, and the idea people can be heroic and evil at different stages of their lives, different people effectively, but also almost exactly the same, below the surface. I thought they took a pretty decent stab at the idea.
Fair enough. I think my mind must have been skipping over the fact they were in stasis, despite it being clearly stated.
I felt the same about Solomon's death. I kept expecting the Doctor to whisk him out, and hand him over to some sort of authorities for trial.
I wouldn't say Nefertiti and Riddell was forced, more formulaic.
I don't think you're doing Scully justice - over the last year I've rewatched all of the X-Files, and she's even more awesome than I remembered. She's a medical doctor who rewrote Einstein's theories!
"Cooper had no special abilities"
Is number 9 from a 'previously on' recap? If not, the pacing's ridiculous...
