THIS. Liz Mair made some great points, but she should know that the Orange One is just the culmination of what the party has been moving towards for decades. The rise and takeover of the Tea Party faction was merely a catalyst of the party descending into madness. It’s not that he’ll “take the party down,” as she

When decades of “government is the problem” rhetoric, combined with virulent anti-intellectualism, combined with worship of business enterprise above social good, combined with continual stoking of racist, sexist, xenophobic fear and hatred all finally coalesce into the puffed-up tangerine spectre of Donald Trump—the

You’re beautiful; this comment is really, really, great- it's the best comment. It’s making KINJA great again!

This comment deserves all the stars. It’s amazing. It is the best comment.

the GOP let the horse out of the barn a long time ago but only now is closing the doors. Except it wasn’t really a horse, but a mangy goat covered in rotten marmalade who thinks he’s a unicorn.

I haven’t seen this, but I disagree with the idea that any of these characters need to be properly set up in order to work in the movie. That is the biggest problem with comic book movies in general — the origin story is played out.

To be honest, this sounds like the exact kind of movie I’ll love and watch again and again.

“Why is this movie so white?”

It has Jada Pinkett Smith, Wendell Pierce, Wanda Sykes, and Jay Hernandez in it?

Oh, sorry. So my BFF took her 2 yr old daughter to the family concert, another mom -let’s call her Jess - made a comment on my BFFs picture saying “how do you do it?!” blah blah. Because Jess could not understand why my BFF would have her toddler out so “late” when Jess’ daughter has a strict bedtime of 8pm and

If I had the choice of working at company I couldn’t care less about and my supervisors were horrible and I was constantly stressed about deadlines and coworkers, and being a stay-at-home parent, I’d choose the latter.

So what you’re saying is this movie would not actually be worth my limited free time to make time to see. Thank you for your sacrifice.

Obsolete might be the wrong word. I mean more making the factors that contribute to higher abortion rates obsolete.

Agreed, it should never be obsolete. I think of it as a supply and demand question: work to reduce the demand all you want by reducing the number of accidental pregnancies and improving women’s circumstances so they feel able to go through with a pregnancy and / or parenting, but leave the supply the hell alone. Which

I have a number of liberal friends who are anti abortion (due to religion, etc). The trick is: they personally do not think abortion is right, but they believe laws banning it are wrong. They believe that in order for them to maintain logical consistency while talking about disliking abortion, they also have to

I have a hard time reconciling their beliefs with women’s rights, but this is what pro-life efforts should look like. If you want to minimize the use of abortion, you have to build the education and support to do so, not just blame pregnant women for becoming pregnant.

Yeah no. Abortion on demand, for any reason. That's the only way women will have true parity with men. Fuck these guys.

Sullivan’s comments suggest an attitude we see a lot of, that there’s something inherently more valuable about the votes of white men, as though they count more. But they don’t! Every vote = 1 vote, and if the Ds can lock up the election without the white male vote, courting it explicitly seems to me like maybe not

You guys are really killing it on this coverage, Stassa. This is a great article among great articles on The Slot, and I’m really glad you guys are here.

Michelle Obama’s speech emphasized this too, the way in which she talked about raising her girls and the importance of having someone they can look up to in the White House. What impressed me about Bill’s speech was that he reminded people that even before she was 30, Hillary was getting shit done. Michelle Obama did
