Clean out your car, okay, but cover up the damned terminals!  Where the hell was the trunk floor cover?

I agree.  Ditching the run-flats on my BMW/Mini vehicles has transformed them from rough riding monsters into amazing performers.  Granted, I have to contend with Detroit quality streets.  Going to two sets of wheels/tires for dedicated summer/winter duty goes a long way in avoiding the mediocrity of all-season tires

If the government really wanted to drive a higher actual CAFE figure, the correct approach would be to tax fuel to increase demand for cars with higher fuel efficiency. Increasing the CAFE numbers and holding the manufacturers to it in a market with cheap fuel and demand for low fuel economy vehicles just forces every

I’m still of the mindset that if a car doesn’t have a steering wheel, why does it look like a car that does have a steering wheel?

“I haven’t sold one car yet for anywhere near where I paid for them.”

The key here is the in cylinder pressure transducers, and cycle resolved data. GMs prototype worked because the ECM was talking to an indicating system with in cylinder transducers. The transducers cost about $1500 per cylinder, and the indicating system maybe another $20k. I’m curious how Mazda has reduced costs.

100 MPa seems crazy to me. Modern GDI systems run in the 15-35 MPa range, and I thought they were limited by the lubricity of fuel. Diesel is more of a thin oil so it’s not as much of a concern going to crazy pressures.

Hard to believe the maintenance costs when this guy had to replace his whole brake system after 60k miles:

I would think adding a downsized genset would be the best way to extend the range. Probably gasoline to avoid the costly emissions control devices for diesel. Looks like you need about 260 hp though, so that’s a pretty sizable gen-set, here’s an interesting read: https://cumminsengines.com/uploads/docs/cummins_secre
