I’ve driven a bunch of shift by wire Audi’s. They all do not behave identically. The 7 Speed in the A4 is not a slushbox, it’s a dual clutch and is temperamental in traffic but accurate and quick when you get the car boiling.

The system works for brand new stuff, once the car has a few months under its belt on the road, stuff doesn’t always come apart easily. Bolts rust, snap, and end up making you take a LOT of extra steps to do the job right and this is where the issue with warranty times comes into play. Ford might say it takes 6 hours…

Regenerative braking is a given. Not aware of any modern EV that omits this. (pedal-up regen is common on most modern golf carts too)
