Ugh, I really hate the “I’m not perfect and no one else is!” response after someone has royally fucked up. No one is saying she needs to be perfect and you don’t need to be perfect to know that it is inadvisable to use drugs while you’re in competition.

The context of Richardson’s actions is what makes this one difficult. Don’t get me wrong, I’m for removing weed from the anti-doping list and having that larger discussion on doping activities in general. I also don’t think that it gives that meaningful of a competitive edge to be that alarmed about the results if

I’m glad you brought that up! Not a lot of people realize just how much of the opposition to disco was rooted in homophobia, racism and misogyny. Rock jocks just couldn’t bear the thought of diverse crowds dancing all night and having fun, so they turned to ridicule and hatred. (Disco Demolition Night? Come on.)

Another drummer who gave credit where it’s due: Stewart Copeland, from a BBC show, talking with Sheila E about James Brown.

Yes, you need to obey whatever rules are in place if you want to compete. It’s not like they made this rule up after the event.

My favourite aspect of this entire thing is just how much it highlights the difference between artists who actually make shit and fans who go all gatekeeper/elitist.

Fans: “I ONLY listen to Doom Metal/Crust Punk/Non-Free Jazz/whatthefuckever!”

Musicians: “Check out what Billie Eilish/Janelle Monae/Streetlight Manifesto

Y’all should REALLY be keeping up with country star Mickey Guyton on her Instagram. She’s had a huge year with “Black Like Me” and “What Are You Gonna Tell Her”, getting gigs hosting awards shows and drawing attention to more country artists of color, and she also has been putting racist commenters on blast with

The Beatles openly worshipped their influences and would say “Hey this is a song by Chuck Berry, we like his music, and you should like his music too.” Paul’s love of Fats Domino is legendary. “Lady Madonna” is his attempt to write a Fats Domino song, which Fats covered and sounded so much better than the Beatles

Yep, he just didn’t test positive a month before he was to compete in the Olympics. He was suspended and lost a bunch of sponsorships from it for 3 months over a photo...not actually testing positive. He was also suspended for 6 months for a DUI or something like that and missed a World Championship so I am not sure

Swimmer? I thought Phelps got similar treatment for a picture of him smoking at a party.

I thought that Canadian snowboarder was banned as well for this?

You need to redo this headline. Anyone that knows anything about Dave knows his reverence for funk, R&B and all black music. Shit Prince said he was a good drummer. That works for me.

He also had the Sonic Highways show on HBO. Did a whole episode on Go-Go music and how influential it was to DMV area.

Please; please; please change the title of this article.

Here is the Sonic Highways episode he did about DC and the music scene when he was growing up, which was the same time for me as we are the same age. I had a chance to go see Scream, the band he was drumming for, but was grounded lol. It touches on go-go, Bad Brains, and other stuff.

Agree; this was a bit of a misfire. Dave Grohl (like today’s birthday Queen, Ms. Elliott) is a national treasure. He lives, breathes and oozes music. And his appreciation for all aspects of it is apparent. Rock, jazz, R&B, soul, rap, country, pop...ska. He’s an encyclopedia of all of it. He loves and spreads the

I like him—cuteness aside, he always seems down to Earth and ... like he still knows how to be regular and enjoy it. Like ... someone you could chill with and eat cheap, greasy pizza on a Tuesday, even now. And he’d be the same guy he was when he was just some “basic drummer,” with a struggling band and a day-job.

Dave Grohl is from the DMV and pays homage and due respect to all Black artistry including GO-GO. I disagree with your header as he has always been about the music of our folks with humility and reverence. Always. Idk where the privilege was presented especially since he publicly and privately gave Tony Thompson his fl

He seems like a thoroughly good guy who is now a thoroughly good Dad. Good guy that no one has a bad word to say that is also rich...you could do worse.

“Did your mind just explode into a cacophony of disco sounds because Dave legit just dropped a bomb on us (pun completely intended)?!”
